What We Do

At The Mediation Space, we recognise the importance of feelings as well as facts. We know that emotions that may accompany a separation can become obstacles to resolution. Couples experience a number of thoughts and anxieties when deciding to separate.

Many worry about separation from their children, from their home and the loss of what they know. Feelings of shame, blame, betrayal and abandonment are common. Anxiety is caused by uncertainty about the future, particularly about living and child arrangements.

Expectations for the future may have to be modified and fear needs to be managed. It is not surprising that couples need therapeutic help to support them through change.

Every client – and every dispute – is different.

Our Services

  • Mediation is a robust process to resolve disputes, and is widely endorsed by the Family Courts.

    We offer:

    • Initial Consultation (Intake meeting/ MIAM)

    • Children and finances mediation

    • Hybrid Mediation

    • Shuttle Mediation

    • Child Inclusive Mediation

    • Co-Mediation

  • We are a mediation service that combines our dual family law and therapeutic training to create a bespoke mediation approach to suit your situation.

Our focus is on supporting you to reach sustainable outcomes through guided conversations. Our legal background enables us to provide you with information about the court’s approach and our therapeutic training helps us to facilitate a safe space to have these important discussions.

Our approach places you both at the centre of all decisions. We will keep the progress of your matter under review throughout. We will consult you both on each step of your journey with us while supporting each of you throughout this emotionally demanding process

  • Arrangements for the children - agreed between you or imposed by a Court - can be difficult emotionally to implement. At The Mediation Space we can help provide a framework or space for feelings to be worked through and to enable discussions around the arrangements to take place. Ultimately, this will benefit the whole family by putting the children centre stage and avoiding the damage done by further court intervention.

  • We will support you through all stages of resolving your financial settlement. We will assist you in the process of financial disclosure to ensure that there is transparency in respect of the financial landscape. This will enable us to facilitate a discussion to achieve a fair distribution of your assets and income. Once a proposal is reached, we will draft a memorandum of understanding and an open statement of financial documents which you can take to your solicitor to enable them to draft a consent order for court approval.

  • Input from a psychotherapist is an integral part of the service we offer. We believe that the involvement of our therapist at the outset means that the emotional aspects of your problem can be attended to and better understood. We offer expert help for you to reflect upon areas of conflict and to work through the emotional obstacles that may obstruct progress and prevent you reaching a sustainable agreement.

  • We also offer our services to professionals involved in all aspects of family law. We provide supervision and reflective groups. We facilitate a space for groups to talk and think about what is involved in helping our clients and the impact of our client’s experiences on ourselves.
